I have found that the more I allow myself to do personal work, the better my eye becomes within my work. It is equal parts freeing and exhilarating to not have any pressure but to follow whatever catches my interest. Most of my work is not for myself, and I always have my clients best interest in mind. So to adventure around two national parks this summer, was just what I needed to work on my "eye" and personal creativity.
My mother-in-law is from Canada and for so many years we have talked about going to Waterton where her family is from and settled. Since we were driving up to Canada, we figured we should stop at Glacier and man, did I LOVE that park! There is a sense of similarity wherever I go in the Rockies, but also some differences that make you realize you aren't in Colorado anymore! Glacier is unique with part of the landscape feeling like the Northwest, then the other half being dry and meadows. We only had a day in the park, but you could easily spend many days wandering from the lakes to the gorgeous tree-filled trails.
Sadly, we were in the area when the fires started this summer, and numerous of the images are hazy because of the think smoke. Interesting fact, within national parks it is not allowed to put out any fires. It is a natural process for them to burn, so it is instructed that the fires keep going within the park until they naturally put themselves out. There were two fires within the park burning when we visited, and then numerous all around. But nothing can take away from the amazing blues from the waters, and the mountains rocketing into the sky.
