Let me introduce you to this sweet family! I get asked so often if I can handle high-energy kids, and lots of them! Well hopefully this session is the proof needed that I can! Four brothers outside in a field at Chautauqua Park is a good recipe for lots of fun and high energy! This cute family comes to Colorado each summer since Sarah grew up here. You may have actually heard of Sarah Nielsen. She is an amazing artists and you have to check out her work! I am linking it here because you don't want to miss it!
They happened to book their session right at the peak of the gorgeous poppy season in the foothills of Colorado! Lupines dotted everywhere and the sun was just setting as we started our time together. It felt like a painting of sorts being out there with the Nielsen's watching the huge Flatirons dim in the distance. It was a joy to be with them and enjoy an evening in Boulder.
Here's the thing with boys, if they can just play and have fun then you get these great smiles! I love photographing kids because it really is a joy. These brothers were so cute together and couldn't help but give some tickles to their youngest sibling.
I wanted add a little note about this image. Motherhood has been on my mind more than ever lately. As being a new mother this past year, after taking this image and editing it, I felt a really strong connection to my work in this moment. Most days honestly I feel like I'm drowning. Watching Sarah take her youngest of four kids on her back represented so much in my personal life. She carried him up the hill, smiled, ran back down with him and the other kids. There are loads on mother's backs that we can see, and then others we can't. It's heavy, hard, grueling. But it's also amazing, character building, beyond rewarding. Little did Sarah know that she was teaching me a lesson while we were in this moment together and for that this is my "image of the year."
I ended my session with some individual images of Sarah. It's always so nice to have a few images of just yourself. It was also such a treat to connect with another artist and creative. Someone who trusted my work and creative flow and allowed me into her world with her family for a moment.
